Ambassador and Fire Wizard and other news

As you can see in the side bar, Ambassador 3 is now out everywhere. To celebrate this, I’ve made book 1 99c.

I’m going through all my book listings, streamlining the website links. I’ve signed up with Payhip, a self-serve payment system in lieu of running your own plug-ins and ebook delivery. They charge a very small percentage for the service, and take Paypal as well as credit cards. Gumroad, that I was using before, doesn’t accept Paypal (neither does Selz, a similar service that’s based in Sydney). If you take the Payhip option, you get an extra 25% off for sharing the link through social media.

I’m also listing all my books on DriveThruFiction.

Next will be Fire Wizard, book 4 of For Queen And Country. This book will go to the editor before the end of this week and should be available this month.

Here is another special: Book 1 of For Queen And Country is free everywhere. If you sign up for my new release mailing list, you get book 2 free as well!

It is very likely that after completing Fire Wizard, I will get serious about Shifting Infinity, after having left Melati and Ari and the others in limbo for over a year. Eight months have passed. Melati has completed her ISF officer training and Ari has signed up to the International Space Force and is becoming a flight technician aboard the large ship where they fled at the end of Shifting Reality. They’re hanging around in orbit close to New Jakarta station, but have been unable to return to it. They’re not entirely sure what goes on at the station save that it’s in the hands of Allion and the new command is making ever more bizarre demands and ultimatums.

Then they capture an independent merchant said to have come from the station. His story about the station is even more strange. The Allion-led command appears to be battling to get the ship’s computers under control and are struggling to keep the station functional. Melati is sent to talk to him, because “you’re brown, too”, but the man is not of Indonesian descent, and she suspects that he’s not a merchant but an Allion mole. But the plea for help that he brings on behalf of her relatives still on the station seems genuine. She and Ari are sent with a more official delegation to find out what is really going on in the limping station.

Blurb:

A few years ago, a military doctor walking the corridors of New Jakarta Station saved Melati’s life. She signed up for the International Space Force to pay back her moral debt to him. But her family thinks she has betrayed her people. It was ISF who forcefully removed their grandmothers and grandfathers from the crowded slums of Jakarta to work in interstellar space stations.

It is Melati’s job to teach six-year old construct soldiers, artificial humans grown in labs and activated with programmed minds. Her latest cohort has one student who claims that he is not a little boy, but a mindbase traveller whose swap partner took off with his body. It soon becomes clear that a lot of people are scouring the station for this man, a scientist with dangerous knowledge.

The best place to hide in the station is amongst the many cultures and subcultures of the expat Indonesian B-sector. Looking for him brings Melati into direct conflict with her people. She does not want to be seen as one of the enemy, but if the scientist’s knowledge falls in the wrong hands, war will come to the station.

Announcements

After having completed Shifting Reality, I have decided that the book will go live on 7 December, which happens to be my birthday. Most likely, I’ll upload it to various sites on the night of the 6th so that it can hopefully be live on the 7th, if not in Australia then in the US. At that time, I will disable all the sample chapters and the link to the free ARC files.

In other news, if you’re in Australia, you can now get a copy of The Far Horizon for only $18.13 (US dollars, too), and pay no postage anywhere in Australia from Aussiebooksellers in Artarmon via ABEbooks. If you order this, I’d be interested to know how long it takes before you have your book. I have no afiliation with this bookseller.

Image of the Day: Melati

For some reason, the image I generated for the heading of the Shifting Reality chapters will no longer work. OK, I still have the image, but because it is too small, I wanted to re-render it, but that didn’t work. Yeah, this 3D stuff is not quite stable. I recently upgraded to the latest version of DAZ.

Anyway, re-rendering it was the lazy option anyway, because I didn’t like the suit she’s wearing, and her skin map was a lazy-arse job. So I decided to re-do the figure with a better skin map and some clothes that she would actually be wearing.

A quick render (errr–anything except quick because this hair takes aaaages), and this is the result. Now all I need is a stonking big gun, some spooky lighting and some smoke.
